The major cities in Alsace are Strasbourg, Mulhouse, and Colmar. Each of these cities has its own unique character, and each is worth a visit and a guided tour. Strasbourg, the capital of the Grand Est region and of Alsace, is home to one of the most magnificent cathedrals on the Upper Rhine.
For tour packages that include a guided tour or city tour in Strasbourg, we reserve the right to charge a surcharge of €60. This surcharge is based on the additional organizational costs associated with the training and continuing education of tour guides, as well as the average fee charged by freelance tour guides in Strasbourg.
Mulhouse, located in the border triangle between Germany, France, and Switzerland, is home to the Cité de l’Automobile, the world’s largest automobile museum, famous for its Bugatti collection. And finally, Colmar, a city of artists and the home of the world-famous “Isenheim Altarpiece,” which Nikolaus von Hagenau and Matthias Grünewald created between 1512 and 1516 for the Antonite monastery in Issenheim. Today it is housed in the famous Unterlinden Museum in Colmar.
Perhaps you’ll be more drawn to the small villages along the Alsace Wine Route: Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, and Ribeauvillé are just a few examples of the traditional architecture found in Alsace along the Wine Route. Cozy little alleys between the typical colorful houses invite you to stroll, and cheerful taverns invite you to enjoy a glass of wine. Of course, a wine tasting can also be part of your guided tour of Alsace.
Or would you like to learn more about the history of the French and Germans? Alsace still offers many reminders of this history, which was at times very turbulent and far from peaceful. Understanding this history means understanding Alsace and the strong identity of the Alsatians.
And finally, Alsace also offers unspoiled nature. Why not visit the Vosges region, where the border between Germany and France once lay? Join your tour guide from Ballon D’Alsace for a trip to the highest peak in Alsace and enjoy the view across the entire Middle Rhine Valley all the way to the Black Forest.
No matter how you choose to spend your day in Alsace, the knowledgeable tour guides we provide will accompany you and inspire you.
The group size of 49 people refers to the tour guide on the bus. For city tours, groups of 31 or more must be split, and an additional tour guide must be hired to ensure the quality of the customer experience.
Our knowledgeable tour guides will captivate you with history, art, and culture. Here, more than in any other region, the influences of France and Germany converge—shaped by nearly 1,000 years of shared history. Look forward to:
