Public City Tour of Freiburg

On the Freiburg Public City Tour, experienced tour guides take independent travelers to the city’s most beautiful sights. Discover Freiburg’s famous Bächle, the charming, winding alleyways, and the colorful Rhine pebble mosaics that give Freiburg its unique charm. With expertise and charm, the knowledgeable tour guides explain the key milestones in the city’s eventful history and answer fascinating questions—such as whether black powder was actually invented in Freiburg. An absolute highlight of the Freiburg Public City Tour is the cathedral, the heart of the city, with its impressive tower, considered one of the most beautiful Christian towers. Of course, the lively Münsterplatz, with its colorful market bustle and magnificent buildings, is also part of the tour.

Public City Tour of Freiburg – A Stroll Through the Old Town

The meeting point for the public city tour is in front of the Schwarzwaldmarie on Münsterplatz; you can also purchase tickets here if you haven’t booked online yet. From here, you’ll immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of Freiburg’s Old Town. The first highlights of this tour will be the Freiburg Cathedral and the Münstermarkt. Passing the Alte Wache and the Historisches Kaufhaus, the tour continues down Konviktstraße, considered Freiburg’s most beautiful alley. The next highlight is the Schwabentor, one of Freiburg’s surviving city gates. The tour continues through the Gerberau and past the second surviving city gate, the Martinstor.

At Rathausplatz, you’ll learn about the history of the town halls and Freiburg’s sister cities. Passing by the Haus zum Walfisch, you’ll head back to Münsterplatz, where the public city tour ends.
