In the shadow of the Black Forest, not far from Freiburg, the Kaiserstuhl rises from the Rhine Valley—a small mountain range of its own, formed by volcanic activity, whose foothills extend westward to the banks of the Rhine. Numerous pretty and charming little wine villages and towns await you in this picturesque landscape. Explore the historic center of Endingen with our tour guides and its old half-timbered houses, or take a stroll through Burkheim in the footsteps of Lazarus Schwendi, the Habsburg general and winemaker, whose extensive estates included Burkheim. Right on the edge of the Kaiserstuhl and directly on the Rhine lies the old town of Breisach, which—with its Münsterberg—is definitely worth a visit. And names like Ihringen, Bötzingen, Waltershofen, and Eichstetten will certainly be familiar to wine lovers, as the wines from the Kaiserstuhl and the Tuniberg are known and loved far beyond the Upper Rhine Valley. The warm sunshine of southern Baden, the mineral-rich loess soils, and the enthusiasm of the local winemakers make the wines of the Kaiserstuhl a special experience. Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Sylvaner, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir are grape varieties you can find and enjoy here. We’d be happy to arrange a wine tasting or vineyard hike for you through a Kaiserstuhl tour guide.
