Description

Discover Colmar: The guided tour through the New Town is a fascinating journey through the impressive architecture of the early 20th century. The tour begins at Colmar’s magnificent train station, an Art Nouveau masterpiece built in 1906 and considered one of the most significant examples of civil architecture in Alsace-Lorraine. The impressive facade, characterized by red brick and gray sandstone blocks, is crowned by a striking bell tower, whose weather vane in the shape of a locomotive is a truly historic symbol.

The tour continues to Avenue Poincaré, where buildings feature beautifully designed brick mosaics and French influences. Here, you can feel the charm of the Neo-Renaissance style, while the Neo-Medieval elements of the High Regional Court are truly impressive. The court itself is a monumental example of the Viennese Baroque style and reflects the city’s history during the German annexation.

Another highlight is the water tower, built in 1885, which captivates visitors with its medieval appearance and modern technical achievements. The tower is surrounded by a sprawling park that brings plenty of greenery to the urban landscape.

Discovering Colmar also means getting to know the Bartholdi Monument, which honors the famous Colmar sculptor Auguste Bartholdi. Finally, you’ll see the charming Art Nouveau villas and the impressive Posthotel from 1893 (from the outside), whose distinctive architecture bears the hallmarks of imperial Germany.

At each stop, a new chapter of the city’s history unfolds. Historical anecdotes and architectural details make the guided tour of Colmar Neustadt an unforgettable experience for architecture and history enthusiasts.
