Visit Basel, Switzerland’s third-largest city. This vibrant metropolis is located in the tri-border region of Germany, France, and Switzerland. With more than 2,000 years of fascinating and entertaining history, you’re sure to have a great time!
The Basel Audio Guide lets you explore this impressive city anytime for just €7.99. Scan the QR code or tap the download links on this page, and once you’ve installed the Future History app, you’re ready to go. It’s convenient, at your own pace, and without having to join a large group. You decide when you want to start your city tour and when you want to take breaks. You can listen to or read about particularly interesting stops as many times as you like.
Highlights of the tour include the Tinguely Fountain and the Münsterberg. An introduction to the city’s history is, of course, also part of the Basel audio guide. Like many European cities, Basel is best explored on foot; you’ll be walking mainly on cobblestone streets, so comfortable shoes are a must. There’s a short but steep climb up to the Münsterberg.
More than 2,000 years ago, Celts settled on the site of today’s Novartis Campus. The excavated settlement is now known as the Basel Gasworks. Later, the Celts also settled on Basel’s Münsterberg and founded an oppidum there. Over the course of history, they were followed by the Romans, the Alemanni, and the Franks.
Visitors will encounter Basel’s eventful history everywhere in the city. What began with the Celts and Romans continued into the Middle Ages. Life in Basel has always been full of events. At each stop along the digital tour, we’ll introduce you to specific events and people who have had a particularly significant impact on Basel.
